Check Out
Allow you to check out the selected database item(s) from
Visual SourceSafe for editing. By default, the “Don’t Update the Script on
SQL Server” checkbox is unchecked. Unchecking that checkbox means that the selected database item(s) in
SourceSafe will replace the corresponding database item(s) on SQL Server. If you want to check out a database item from
Visual SourceSafe, but do not want to replace the database item on SQL Server,
check the checkbox. This feature is very
useful if you want to edit a table item (e.g. a trigger) but want to preserve
all data records in the table. In that case, choose the “Don’t Update the
Script on SQL Server” option. Later on, you can compare the database item in
SourceSafe against the one in SQL Server.
Based on the differences, you can edit the table item in SQL Server
manually.

The Check Out operation can be applied to an individual
database item, multiple database items, or a folder that is either a database
category or the entire project. When a folder is selected, the check out
operation is applied to all database items under the folder.
By default, the “Don’t Update the database item on SQL
Server” is unchecked. If you want to set
the check box “checked” as default, you can click the “Option>>” button
on this dialog to expand more options as Figure 2 shown. If you check the “Don’t Update the database
item on SQL Server” in the Default Check Out Option
group, it will set the option as default for the application.
