The SQLSourceSafe can encode SQL objects in either ASCII or
Unicode format. When the first user connects to the SourceSafe, if the project
in SourceSafe has not been created, the SQLSourceSafe
will prompt the user to create a project in the SourceSafe and capture all SQL
objects in the project. The encoding
format of initial added SQL objects depend on the setting of SQLSourceSafe that created the project in SourceSafe. By default, the SQLSourceSafe
encodes all SQL objects in Unicode format.
If you want to set the encoding format to be ASCII, you can launch the
Encoding Format Setting dialog by menu Help | ASCII/Unicode Setting.

When all SQL objects are captured in SourceSafe using a encoding method, the same encoding method should be used within
your development team. If a user launches
the SQLSourceSafe connecting to a SQLSourceSafe
project that using different encoding method, a message box will pop up to warn
the differences. At this time, you
should change the encoding setting on your SQLSourceSafe
and ensure the setting is same as the project.
